Cara's tracks often contain positive messages regarding mental health, and the importance of loving oneself. The music she sings is reflective of her personal struggle with insomnia and mental health. According to a Reuters interview, she describes her album as half tumultuous and half complete. She found that therapy made her stronger and she encourages people to try it too. Alessia Cara, a Canadian musician was born in Canada on the 11th of July 1996 of Italian descent parents. The guitar was gifted to her by her parents when she was 10, which ignited her passion for music. In the age of 13she began covering songs she liked on YouTube to demonstrate to people that she had talent and brave enough to pursue a career as musician. Sweater Weather is one of these covers which led to being discovered to be signed by EP Entertainment. This record label let her write new songs of her own.
